Frequently Asked Questions For Jobseekers

We are a job placement company that helps job seekers get noticed by, and land positions that match their qualifications, at companies that are hiring.  AVANT has been making great matches in our community for more than 17 years, giving us a unique insight into the companies in the area and the job openings that are available  Because of this, we are able to make sure your resume is actually seen by the people making the hiring decisions, giving you a better chance of being selected for your ideal job.

There are several reasons why you would need to provide your Social Security Number (SSN).  Because it is a unique identifier assigned to you by the government, the SSN is used in a number of ways in the employment arena.  For example, the U.S. Government requires all employers to verify the eligibility for employment of every person, using the I-9 Work Authorization form.  The I-9 form requires the SSN as part of the completion process.  In addition, because AVANT provides employees to Federal Government contractors, we are required by law to use the governmental online verification system known as e-verify, which also requires a SSN for completion.  Lastly, AVANT is required to withhold employment related taxes, and remit those taxes to the government each week.  The government requires every employer to use the SSN track the taxes generated. You can find out more about the history of the Social Security Number and its uses here

Great news, you’ve already started!  Learning about; AVANT, how we work, and some of the jobs we have listed on our website is a great first step.  To move forward, jump over to our online application and start that process.   Once you’ve completed the online application, give us at least one business day to review your file, then give us a call at (919) 361-2056.  Talking on the phone allows us to learn about the types of positions you are interested in, the work that you’ve done in the past, and to see if we would be a good fit in helping move your career forward.  If everything is a fit, we’ll schedule a time for you to interview with one of our Career Development Specialists to go really explore what positions might be a fit for you. Of course, there’s paperwork that has to be completed for the government, taxes, benefits and the like.  Once we’ve finished the process, including a background check, drug screening and references, then we can begin talking with you about specific positions that might be a fit.

Great question!  The best way to raise your chances of being matched with a great position is to touch base with us at least once a week!  If you are staying in contact with us, you will be at the top of the list of candidates we consider for new positions as they come into our office.  You should also make sure we always have the most up to date contact information for you so that we can get in touch with you right away when a new job comes in.  And lastly, answer the phone, read the email or text, and call us back right away. A lot of our positions are time-sensitive and calling us right away helps get you selected for those positions.

Please dress as professionally as you would for any interview.  Remember, you are interviewing for a job and you want to put your best foot forward in making a good impression.

We work with companies that need people for all different types of jobs and projects, whether they are short term, long term, temp-to-hire and direct placement assignments. Because of that, the length of each job we have may be different.  But, when we offer you any position, we will give you all the specific details about the job, including how long it is expected to last, so that you know exactly what you are committing to, if you accept the offered job.

As a staffing agency, the open positions we have available are constantly changing.  What that means for you is that there will be times when you can be matched with a position almost immediately, and there are also times when the right match may take a little longer.  In general, the more specific the position you are looking for, the longer the process will take. Our sole reason for existence is to match you with the right position, and we work hard every day to make that happen as quickly as possible.

AVANT processes a payroll every week, and pay day is every Friday.  Our work week is Monday to Sunday. While you are on an assignment, for each week you work, you will need to complete a timecard, have it signed by your supervisor, and submit it to our office by noon each Monday. We will process the payroll during the week and paychecks will be available for mail or pickup each Friday.  We are working to be able to bring paycheck direct deposit services soon.
